History
For the second "official" year, the Fat Dog Festival
was one of the biggest and best backyard party in the Hampton Roads area! What began
as a small birthday party for our daughter, Dana, is now a major musical event
to benefit a local animal shelter. The charity came about after talking with
Darrell, Steve, Mike and Oren of Control Council and Jeff, Pat and Dirk of Last
Ditch Effort. They provided and arranged the musical entertainment. When
they asked if they could contribute to food costs, Darrell suggested we collect
pet food and contributions to be given to a local animal shelter. The name Fat
Dog Festival was also Darrell's idea.
Food
Chief cook, Trey Young will be at the barbecue
pit cooking up hamburgers, hot dogs and barbecue with all the fixings. Just like
last year, we'll have plenty of baked beans, cole slaw, rolls and of course, those deviled eggs! (Darrell, we gotcha covered!)
And
a party wouldn't be complete without dessert.
Music
Enjoy live bands! While Trey serves up the hot
dogs, some local bands will serve up a variety of different musical styles. From
jazz to rock, everyone is sure to be very pleased with this backyard concert. And don't forget our very special emcees, Stephen Hobbs and Tyler Ray!
Games
In addition to horseshoes, which everyone
enjoyed playing last year, we will have volleyball and croquet. We will have
special activities for the kids. Details to follow.
Camping
Bring your sleeping bag! We have lots of room
for tents, campers and trailers too. Weather permitting, we will have a campfire
for roasting marshmallows, telling ghost stories and singing to an acoustic
guitar. A perfect way to wind down after the day's activities.
